This home situated at the foot of Mount Iron was created as a show home for the Hidden Hills subdivision. The owners wanted the home to be an example of the character and style of home they would like to see in their subdivision and the latest materials.
A long masonry spine wall runs through the house to provide thermal mass as well as define the living areas of the house from the services areas and bedrooms. Polished concrete floors provide additional thermal mass.
The planning of the house is a ‘T’ shape with the top of the North facing ‘T’ containing all living areas and master suite. The leg of the ‘T’ is excavated into the hillside with garages and services areas on the lower level and children’s / guest bedrooms on the upper level , opening on to outdoor spaces.
The house remains cool in summer and requires minimal heating from the hot water boiler system in winter.
