Dublin Downs Residence
The house is situated on the foothills of Mt Maude overlooking the Maungawera Valley. While the traditional forms, materials and colours were dictated by the resource consent, they have been used to provide a home that has sheltered outdoor spaces, clear separation between family and guest, and high ceilings in all living and bedrooms areas, linked by low flat ceilings in service and circulation areas.
The traditional bagged schist stonework is carried into the interior as a large fireplace in the main living area and to surround the stairway in the entry foyer.
New Zealand Beech has been used for all joinery, doors and high ceilings, and provides the house with a natural warmth and timelessness.
Large sliding doors enable the interior spaces to be opened up or closed off depending the on the season or the number of occupants.
